The Panthers posted a 1-0 overtime victory over Illinois State (9-8-2) when the teams met on Sept. 23 to open MVC regular season play.
The Panthers equaled the program's record with four MVC victories. UNI also captured four MVC wins in the 2003 season. UNI posted a mark of 4-3 in league play - only the third winning record for the Panthers in conference play (2003 - 4-2-1; 2012 - 3-2-1).
UNI's third-place finish in the final MVC standings also ties for the best league, which the Panthers accomplished last season with a 2-2-2 record.
Junior goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger (Wichita, Kansas) recorded her ninth shutout of the season Thursday in a 2-0 victory over Indiana State. Reichenberger is one shutout away from tying the MVC single-season record for shutouts. Illinois State's Allison Farrington set the MVC record for shutouts with 10 in the 2003 season.
Junior forward Brynell Young (Aurora, Colorado) set the UNI single-season goals scored record with a pair of goals in Thursday's 2-0 win over Indiana State. Young has accumulated nine goals this season - besting the previous mark of eight goals by Chelsie Hochstedler (2008) and Jane Masteller (2001). Young also set the single-season points record with 20. The previous record was held by Masteller with 18 in 2001.
The Panthers have hosted an MVC Tournament quarterfinal game on three previous occasions. UNI lost in penalty kicks to Indiana State at home in 2012. The Panthers lost to Missouri State at home in 2014. UNI fell to Loyola at home in 2016.
UNI has advanced to the MVC Tournament semifinals three times. UNI is looking for its first appearance in the MVC Tournament championship game.
The winner of Sunday's game will advance to play No. 1 seeded Drake in Springfield, Missouri, in the MVC Tournament semifinal. Missouri State is the No. 2 seed and play the winner of the Loyola-Valparaiso match. The semifinals will be played Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The 2017 MVC Tournament championship match is set for Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
