Farley Named To Buck Buchanan Award Watch List

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Continuing a great tradition of elite defensive players at Northern Iowa, senior linebacker Jared Farley was named to the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award Watch List on Wednesday.
The Buchanan Award was first awarded in 1995 and is presented to the FCS defensive player of the year. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on 25 finalists following the regular season.
"It's a great honor to be on the Buck Buchanan Watch List," Jared Farley said. "There have been may great defensive players that have come through the UNI program, so I'm happy to follow their path and continue that tradition here."
Farley was named a midseason addition to the list, joining five other FCS defensive players. The Panthers won the award last season, after Karter Schult became the first player in UNI's storied history to claim the honor.
"Seeing Karter win the award last year was great and it was such an honor for him and our program," Farley said about Schult's win last season. "There are a lot of great players in the FCS, so to be named to this list is very humbling and I hope to have continued success the rest of the season."
This season, Farley has earned 11.2 tackles per game to tie for ninth in the FCS and rank second in the MVFC. Overall, Farley has collected 67 total tackles, with 37 being solos. The senior linebacker has also earned one interception and one fumble recovery, with the fumble being taken for a score by Farley against Cal Poly.
Farley was also named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy earlier this season, an award the UNI's Schult was a finalist for last season.
