Bitter Scores Late for Panther Win over Valpo

Valparaiso, Indiana—With a goal late in the first overtime period by Allison Bitter, the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team improves to 11-3-1 on the season and 3-2 in MVC action.
Sydney Hayden put the Panthers ahead in the 13th minute, on a assist from Sarah Brandt. It was Hayden's third goal of the season and Brandt's sixth assist.
Valparaiso (8-7, 2-2 MVC) scored off a Cory Griffith goal, with Sydney Griffin assisting in the 22nd minute.
Bitter scored in the 97th minute for the Panthers, earning her first goal this season.
"I'm really happy for the team with the week that we have had. Our game on Tuesday was moved due to weather and then today as well. We put that aside and had one of our best performances this season," commented UNI head coach Bruce Erickson.
Although no goals were scored in the second half, the Panthers attempted 8 shots. The Panthers recorded 17 shots to Valparaiso's 6 shots.
With tonight's win, the Panthers have recorded the most wins in school history with 10. The previous was 10, set in the 2003 season.
