DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake Bulldogs won their seventh straight match with a 2-1 triumph over the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team in Wednesday at Cownie Stadium.
The Bulldogs (10-3-1, 3-0 MVC) opened up a two-goal advantage early in the second half over the visiting Panthers (10-3-1, 2-2 MVC).
"I was really happy with our first 35 minutes," UNI head coach Bruce Erickson said. "I thought we played our game and really caused Drake some problems. We had some chances but couldn't finish. Drake scored a great goal and we had to battle back in the second half. I was disappointed with their second goal but was pleased to see us keep fighting and score the goal at the end."
UNI scored with 2:02 left in the match on a corner kick. Jenny Wick found the back of the net on a pass from Hannah McDevitt, but the Panthers could not get the equalizer against the Bulldogs. The goal was Wick's second of the season. It was McDevitt's third assist in 2017.
UNI will be back in action Saturday on the road at Valparaiso. The match will get underway at 7 p.m.
