Schult Named FCS ADA Defensive Player of the Year

CLEVELAND – Defensive lineman Karter Schult has been named the 2016 FCS Athletics Directors Association Defensive Player of the Year, it was announced today.
Schult is the first player in UNI history to be named ADA Defensive Player of the Year and is the second student-athlete in Missouri Valley Football Conference to earn the honor, joining North Dakota State's Kyle Emmanuel who won in 2014.
Schult and ADA Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp of Eastern Washington are also finalists for the STATS Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year Award, which will be announced on Friday, Jan. 6. Schut is UNI's sixth finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award since 2001.
Schult and Kupp will be recognized this Saturday at the 2016 NCAA Division I Football Championship with a plaque, presented by FCS ADA President Mark Wilson.
Schult, who has accepted an invitation to play in the 92nd East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 21, has been named to seven All-America teams this post-season. The 2016 MVFC Defensive Player of the Year was also named Madness FCS Defensive Player of the Year.
Off the field, the Tripoli, Iowa, native earned CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team for the second time in his career and was also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy Award, also known as the Academic Heisman.
