CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball program picked up a 68-30 win over the Loyola Ramblers, with all 13 players scoring in the game. UNI improved to 15-4 overall and 8-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
UNI's youth on the squad gained valuable experience in the Panther win today, with all 13 players seeing action. Taylor Hagen and Angie Davison both turned in nine points each while Madison Weekly, Ellie Herzberg and Abby Gerrits all added seven points.
The Panthers started the game on a 7-0 run, with Loyola being held scoreless until the 6:56 mark in the first quarter. Davison scored all nine of her points in the first quarter and at one point, was 3-for-3 from distance. The Ramblers shot just 2-for-11 from the field and had seven turnovers in the first quarter, allowing UNI to head into the second quarter up 21-4.
Loyola started the second quarter on a 6-0 run, making it 25-11 with 6:17 on the clock before Weekly hit a three to end UNI's scoring drought. The Panthers ended the quarter how Loyola started, going on a 6-0 run to take a 36-13 lead heading into halftime. UNI forced seven more turnovers during the second quarter, continuing its suffocating defense down the stretch.
UNI held Loyola to just one field goal in the entire third quarter with the Ramblers heading into the fourth with just 16 points. Seven was the lucky number for the Panthers in forcing turnovers, forcing seven more in the third while committing zero. Despite losing the rebounding battle in the third quarter, UNI's bench continued to be strong, outscoring Loyola's bench 10-0.
UNI's youngsters got all of the playing time in the fourth quarter with Gerrits scoring five of her seven points in the final period. The Panthers athleticism shined in the fourth, forcing five turnovers while holding Loyola to 30-percent shooting, sealing the Panthers 68-30 win.
