The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball will begin its two-game road trip in Normal, Ill. on Friday, Jan. 13 as they take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 7 p.m. The game is followed by a Sunday afternoon match-up at Bradley with a 2 p.m. tip time.

The Redbirds are led by Taylor Stewart and Brechelle Beachum who are averaging 12.4 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Illinois State opened the Valley season with a win over Bradley, but have dropped two straight against Loyola (L, 64-61) and Indiana State (L, 63-49).
MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week (Jan. 11): Senior Madison Weekly earned MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season for her performances against Southern Illinois (1/6) and Evansville (1/8).
She plays with CLASS: Madison Weekly has been named a candidate for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award. Weekly is one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award and one of two student-athletes representing the Missouri Valley Conference. The class of 30 will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot.
Career-High for Hannah: Senior Hannah Schonhardt racked up a career-high 18 rebounds in UNI's win over Evansville (1/8), passing her previous career-high of 17 she set against Drake in 2014. The school record for rebounds in a game is 22, set by Allison Starr in 2000. Sixteen of her 18 rebounds were defensive, coming close to the UNI record of 18 that Starr set against Wichita State in 2000.
History in the Making: UNI won its 99th game in the McLeod Center with its 54-40 win over Evansville (1/8).
Herzberg Stays Consistent: Ellie Herzberg scored a game-high 16 points against Evansville (1/8). She has reached double figures in five of the last six games and is averaging 13.3 points per game in Valley play.
Defense Sticks: UNI held two of Evansville's three leading scorers to single-digits. Sara Dickey entered the game averaging 16.7 points per game and 17.7 in MVC play, only scoring eight against UNI. They also held Camary Williams to one point after she was averaging 15.9 points per game and 18.7 in conference play.
