CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNI wrestling notched five wins over top-15 opponents, and six Panthers are still in the hunt for a medal at the Southern Scuffle, which wraps up tomorrow.

Tyler Willers knocked off No. 4 Randy Cruz of Lehigh in the first round with a 12-2 major decision at 141 pounds. Jake Hodges, also at 141 pounds, toppled No. 7 Matt Manley of Missouri in the first round. He pushed it to sudden victory to win 2-1.

Alber ended his bonus point streak, but earned a win over his first top-15 opponent at 133 pounds. He improved to 11-2 overall on the season, and he earned bonus points in the first 10 wins. He added a fall and a tech fall after the first day at the Southern Scuffle. He now has three pins, three tech falls, four major decisions and one decision. He ended the night with a win over No. 13. Kevin DeVoy of Drexel.

Thomsen ended the night with a sudden victory win over his first top-10 opponent of the year in the 149-pound weight class. A takedown in sudden victory, advanced him to the semifinals, where he will face No. 4 Lavion Mayes of Missouri.

Steiert had his first top-10 win with a sudden victory win over No. 9 Nick Wanzek of Minnesota. Wanzek is ranked at 174 pounds. The two are competing at 165 pounds. Steiert got his first fall of the season in his opening round.

Foster also earned his final win of the day in sudden victory. He earned two major decisions at 184 pounds before the 6-4 win over Bryce Carr of Chattanooga. He will face No. 5 Nathan Boyd of Oklahoma State in the first round Monday.
"The coaches preach scoring points, and if the opportunity is there, go and take it," said Foster. "The wrestling has been great. It's a great atmosphere with a lot of tough wrestlers. It's really fun to have an opportunity like this, so I'm making the most of it."

Schwarm will get his first shot at a ranked opponent when he faces No. 7 Barlow McGhee of Missouri in the first round Monday. He wrapped up the day earning two falls, including one and a tech fall.

Lujan dominated his first-round match against Dalton Robertson of Northern Colorado. He wrapped up the tech fall in less than five minutes.
The Team is sitting in fourth place, just one point behind Lehigh.
