UNI Women Shine At Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The UNI cross country program wrapped up competition today at the Notre Dame Invitational, with the women continuing to post top-five finishes as a team, placing fifth overall.
The women were competing against 24 teams from across the country after being ranked No. 15 in the Midwest Region this week.
For the third consecutive meet, junior Ashley Norem led the way for the Panthers, placing 17th overall in a competition that fielded 222 athletes. She came in with a time of 17:40.00 in the 5K, setting a new personal record and ranking her No. 6 all-time at UNI.
Coming across second for the Panthers was senior Kelsey Kirchoff, who notched a top-25 finish. The Denver, Iowa native finished in 23rd place overall with a time of 17:44.10.
She was followed closely by Brette Correy, who rounded out UNI's top-30 finishers on the women's side. Correy placed 26th with a time of 17:45.50, the eighth fastest time in the 5,000 meters in UNI history.
The men's team competed among 24 teams and 183 student-athletes at the Notre Dame Invitational, with Bailey Wetherell earning a top-50 finish. He finished 42nd overall with a time of 25:32.80.
Zach Buchheit and Jacob Day were UNI's second and third finisher of the day, placing 64th and 76th overall. Buchheit recorded a time of 25:48.50 with Day posting a time of 25:57.30.
The Panthers will return to action on Oct. 14 when they compete at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. CT.
