WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team won its fourth straight game Sunday afternoon, defeating Viterbo 2-0. The win extended their record at home this season to 6-0.
The Panthers and the V-hawks played to a draw at the half with UNI out shooting Viterbo 11 to 1. UNI dominated possession and kept the ball in the Viterbo half, yet struggled to find the final product in front of goal.
Shortly after halftime in the 48th minute their relentless effort paid off, with Hannah McDevitt sending a ball into the box that Kelsey Hansen struck on a half volley into the net. This assist was McDevitt's team leading third of the season.
The Panthers would only have to wait a minute to double their lead, as Jenny Wick scored her second goal of the season off a Kelsey Yarrow assist.
Defensively the Panthers only allowed four shots on goal, with Maddie Lesjak saving every shot. This performance improved Lesjak's record in goal to 5-1, with three shutouts.
Next up for the Panthers is a match-up with Evansville on the road Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with live stats available via Evansville athletics.
