UNI Deals a Sweep of Purple Aces, 3-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad bounced back from the program's first-ever 0-2 start in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-0 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday. UNI won by set scores of 25-14, 25-9, 25-5.
UNI (10-6, 1-2 MVC) gave up a program-low 28 total points in the match. The five points allowed in the third set is the fewest points allowed by a Panther team since going to rally scoring in 2001. Evansville dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Panthers recorded a .403 hitting percentage for the match - the first time UNI has hit .400 or better in a match since hitting .477 vs. George Washington on Aug. 25, 2012.
UNI limited Evansville to a negative (-.098) hitting percentage. Evansville had 15 kills to go against 23 attack errors in the three-set match.Â
UNI improved to 46-1 all-time vs. Evansville. UNI has won eight straight matches in Evansville and has won all 24 sets in those eight victories.
The Panthers were led by Amie Held's nine kills. Kendyl Sorge and Bri Weber each posted 10 digs. Kayla Haneline notched eight kills and six blocks. Heather Hook dished out a match-high 22 assists.
The Panthers will return home to the McLeod Center to take on Missouri State (Fri., 7 p.m.) and Wichita State (Sat., 7 p.m.).
NOTES: Sophomore Lexi Astor and redshirt freshmen Maddie McNeil and Rachel Koop each saw their first collegiate action in the third set ... Koop registered two assists and a dig.
