Panthers Shock Titans 22-1; Lightning Ends Game

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa softball team dominated Wednesday afternoons match against Iowa Central Community College, ending with a score of 22-1 before lightening ended the game at the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Panthers started the game off strong with Brittney Roby and Sammey Bunch immediately getting on base in the bottom of the first. UNI scored six runs and had the entire lineup bat in the first.
The bottom of the second was equally exciting as Roby and Bunch both started the inning with homeruns. Kennedy Bailey and reached home with the help of her teammates, while Bailey Lange also came out with a homerun, pushing the Panthers to a 10-0 lead.
UNI continued to stretch their lead in the bottom of the fourth with seven Panthers reaching home, including a homerun from Alicia Crivaro, resulting in a 18-0 lead.
Alyssa Buchanan kept the Titans scoreless until the top of the fifth, resulting in Iowa Centrals only run of the afternoon.
The Panthers continued their run streak in the bottom of the eighth with Tianna Drahn reaching home, bringing the score to 22-1 and only one out.
The rest of the game was canceled due to lightning coming in the area.
Next game for the Panthers is against Mount Mercy University on Wed., Sep. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at Robinson-Dresser Field.
