WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team remains unbeaten at home this season, defeating Western Illinois 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
The game remained scoreless until the 35th minute, with Brynell Yount making a long solo run down the right side that ended with her beating the keeper. This was the end product of a flurry of 11 total shots from the team in the first half.
It would only take Yount 22 minutes after the half to secure her brace, putting a rebound into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
The Panthers wouldn't have to wait long for their third goal, drawing a penalty kick less than a minute later. Sarah Brandt stepped up for the Panthers, slotting it under the diving keeper, her team leading fourth goal of the season.
Maddie Lesjak started in goal for the Panthers, saving two shots, while organizing a back line that stifled any Western Illinois attack, resulting in only two shots on goal.
Today's win improved the team's record to 5-4-1, with Missouri Valley Conference play set to start this week. UNI is next in action this Friday, Sept. 23 against Missouri State at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and live stats are available via UNI athletics.
