CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Head coach Dave Paulsen has announced the additions of Ibrahim Kabia and Alexina Wilson to the Panther track and field and cross country coaching staff.Â
Kabia has spent the previous two years as an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota where he worked with the sprints, jumps and multi-event athletes.
A native of Sierra Leone, Kabia still holds Minnesota program records in the 60 meter dash (6.63) and 100 meter dash (10.29). He served as a captain for the Gophers in 2008 and 2009 and was the 2008 Big Ten Conference champion in the 100 meter dash.
Kabia continued his track and field career beyond his time in maroon and gold, setting the Sierra Leone national record in the 60 meter dash (6.65) as a 60 meter finalist at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Kabia graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and a masters of education in sports management in 2016.
"I could not be more excited to welcome Ibrahim into the Panther family," Paulsen said. "His dedication to the student-athlete experience fits the mission of our program and he will have an immediate positive impact at UNI."
Wilson will be entering her first season as a full-time assistant for the Panthers after serving the program as a part-time assistant last year. Wilson was also a student-athlete for the Panthers from 2011-2015.
"We are very fortunate to have Alex joining our coaching staff full time," Paulsen said. "Her knowledge and passion for UNI athletics is visible to everyone she works with, and she is fully committed to developing student athletes both on and off the track. "Â
Wilson is coming off a stellar post-collegiate track season in which she qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the steeple chase. She was a standout student-athlete at UNI, where she was a two-time NCAA national qualifier, three-time MVC champion and where she still holds nine school records. Wilson graduated from UNI in 2015 with a double major in criminology and sociology.
