Baker, Carnes Earn All-America Honors At NCAA Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2016 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships today, bringing home two All-America honors.
Senior Justin Baker kept his record breaking season going, capturing the UNI hammer throw record for the fourth time this season. The Sioux City, Iowa native capped off an incredible career with a mark of 215-09.00 for 15th overall and second-team All-America honors.
Baker wraps up his career with five all-conference honors, two NCAA Championship appearances and three NCAA West Preliminary Round showings. He is ranked in the top-five all-time in the indoor shot put and weight throw along with school records in the outdoor hammer and shot put.
Junior Brandon Carnes was UNI's second competitor of the day, placing 18th overall in the 100 meter dash to earn All-America honorable mention for the second straight season. The Bradenton, Fla. native earned a time of 10.40 to place fifth in his heat, ending his junior season where he captured his 12th MVC title and his second MVC Most Outstanding Track Athlete honor.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11 when Paige Knodle takes on the heptathlon. The multi-event will start at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday and will air live on ESPN3.
