MVC RELEASE
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its 2016 MVC Track and Field Scholar-Athlete team today, with UNI earning 20 spots.
UNI's 20 scholar-athletes is the most since the 2007-08 season where the Panthers were recognized with 24 honorees.
To earn MVC Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must finish in the top-eight of the conference championship or in the top-three of a relay event (indoor or outdoor meet) and carry a 3.20 cumulative GPA. First-year transfers are not eligible and student-athletes must be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing.
For the men, Weston Riesselman, who obtained a degree in health promotion, leads the way with his third consecutive season earning Scholar-Athlete honors. Brett McCalla (movement and exercise science) and Bailey Wetherell (biology, biochemistry) also earned repeat honors while Isaac Holtz and Brad Walski were UNI's newcomers to the list.
Like Riesselman, Jamie Lindstrom (family services, social work) has stayed the course and performed on and off the track to earn her third MVC Scholar-Athlete recognition along with Maddie Beeler, who graduated with a degree in earth science.
Brette Correy (early childhood, elementary education), Kelsey Kirchoff (movement and exercise science), Christine MacNeill (communication disorders), Rachel Peth (elementary, middle level education), Tatiana Rice (criminology) and Kassidy Sharp (elementary education) all were named Scholar-Athletes for the second time in their careers while Anna Bentley, Maddie Irmen, Lindsey Kite, Paige Knodle, Ashley Norem, Sarah Pate and Jennifer Roberts all received their first spots on the list.
