UNI T&F Wraps Up NCAA West Preliminary Round

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up the final day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, finishing a weekend of tough competition and strong performances across the board.
Justin Baker, who had already clinched his spot at the NCAA Championships in the hammer, also competed in the shot put today, turning in a mark of 60-9.50 to finish 13th overall. Jake Humpal also
Jamie Lindstrom competed in the shot put for the Panthers today on the women's side, wrapping up her career in the Purple and Old Gold. Lindstrom has been a standout athletes for the Panthers, ranking herself in the top-five all-time at UNI in the indoor weight throw (1st), shot put (2nd) and the outdoor hammer throw (4th), discus (5th) and shot put (3rd). She finished the competition today with a toss of 45-9.00 to finish 44th overall.
Also in the throws, Isaac Holtz competed in the discus, finishing in fifth in his flight. The 2016 MVC Champion in the event went for a mark of 175-4.00 to place 24th overall out of 48 competitors in his first year at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
In the sand pit, Shawn Koch posted a mark of 49-3.75 in the triple jump to finish 10th in this flight and 33rd overall. Koch, who earned All-MVC in the indoor and outdoor triple jump this season, finished his season ranked No. 4 all-time at UNI in the event.
Moving onto the track, Paige Knodle took on the 100 meter hurdles, finishing third in her heat with a time of 13.38, ranking her 17th overall in the competition. The Byron, Ill. native, who will go on to the NCAA Championships to compete in the heptathlon, won both the 100 and 60 meter hurdle titles at the MVC meets this year and holds the school record in both.
On the men's side, Jon Rus, Cole Phillips and Daurice Fountain all competed for the Panthers, with Rus and Phillips posting top-30 finishes. Rus placed fifth in his heat with a time of 14.12 to rank No. 25 overall while Phillips turned in a sixth place finish in his heat with a personal-best time of 14.32 to finish in 29th.
Wrapping up action on the track was Brandon Carnes in the 200 meters, placing 20th overall out of 48 competitors to finish with a time of 20.94 and second in his heat. The Bradenton, Fla. native will compete in the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Championships.
Baker, Knodle and Carnes will all compete at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 8-11. Stay tuned to www.UNIPanthers.com for a preview of the meet.
