Wnek Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

University of Northern Iowa shortstop Caitlin Wnek has been named to the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team as voted on by the league's softball sports information directors. The honor marks the second time that Wnek has been named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team as she was selected in 2014.
Wnek (Amana, Iowa) batted .323 for UNI this season while adding a team-best 18 doubles. The senior set the UNI program record this season for most career doubles with 56 and record for sacrifice flies in a season. In conference play, Wnek batted .388 with 19 runs batted in while the Panthers finished third in the MVC. The 2016 All-MVC First-Teamer struck out just two times in 161 at-bats, ranking nationally as the fifth toughest batter to strikeout.
In the classroom, Wnek has a 3.76 grade point average and is majoring in sports psychology. Wnek was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Region team this season.
