Three Panthers Earn MVC Athlete of the Week Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Northern Iowa track and field program was highlighted today by the Missouri Valley Conference after Amber Clock, Sarah Pate and Justin Baker all earned Athlete of the Week honors.

Clock was named MVC Female Track Athlete of the Week while Pate was tabbed Female Field Athlete of the Week and Baker Male Field Athlete of the Week. It is Pate and Clock's first Athlete of the Week honors this season with Baker earning Field Athlete of the Week recognition for the second consecutive week.

Baker continued to set records for the Panthers, notching a new UNI record in the shot put at the Wisconsin Twilight. His throw of 63-6.25 won the competition, ranked him No. 6 in the NCAA West Region and No. 10 in the country. It is the fifth time this season that Baker has broken a UNI record, claiming the hammer throw record three times this outdoor season and the shot put top-spot twice.

In the women's throws, Pate put on a show at the Wisconsin Twilight, earning spots on UNI's all-time list in two events. Pate got things started in the hammer throw, landing a career-best throw of 191-10.00 to finish second overall, second in UNI history and move her into the No. 33 spot in the NCAA West. She then moved her momentum into the discus, gaining a PR of 163-6.00 to move her into No. 3 all-time at UNI and into the top-48 in the West Region.

On the track, Clock kept the career-bests coming during UNI's successful outing in Madison. She ran a new personal-best in the 800 meter, coming across the finish line in 2:06.94, a two-second PR that is the third fastest time in school history. The time ranks her No. 31 in the West Region.

The Panthers return to action this week as they head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the MVC Outdoor Championships, May 13-15.
