UNI Records Strong Marks At Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program competed at the Husker Spring Invitational today during a windy outing in Lincoln, bringing home high ranking marks in the Missouri Valley and NCAA West Region.
Getting the Panthers started on the track was the men's 4X100 meter relay team, winning the event with a team time of 40.92. The team of Tanner Dunkin, Evan Long, Brett McCalla and Brandon Carnes turned in the second fastest time in the Valley this season.
Carnes continued the momentum into his open 200 meter dash, his first 200 race of the season. He won the event with a time of 21.00, ranking him first in the MVC and No. 17 in the west regional.
In the long sprints, senior Maddie Beeler brought home a victory in the 400 meters, running the second fastest outdoor quarter mile time of her career. She came across the finish line in 55.79, also marking the second fastest time in the MVC.
Paige Knodle kept the wins coming in the women's 100 meter hurdles, recording a season-best time of 13.65, moving her into the top-30 in the NCAA West Region. Christine MacNeill placed third overall with a season-best time of 14.21 while Jon Rus grabbed a third place finish in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.39.
UNI had four athletes earn top-five finishes in the men's and women's 800 meter run, including a win from Brette Correy. She posted a time of 2:10.63 to put herself at the top of the Valley, followed by Ashley Norem (2:15.13), who placed third in the race. Colynn Black ranked himself second in the league after his season-best time of 1:53.92 in the men's race for fourth while Dylan Eigenberger continued to turn in strong times with a fifth place finish in 1:54.01.
Kelsey Kirchoff recorded two fast times in the distance events today, finishing fifth overall in the 1,500 meters and second in the 3,000 meters. Her time of 4:44.54 in the 1,500 meters served as a season best while she finished with an outdoor personal-best in the 3K with a time of 10:16.96.
Wrapping up action on the track, both the men's and women's 4X400 meter relay teams earned top-five finishes. The women's team of Beeler, Correy, Knodle and Maddie Bell placed second with a time of 3:46.34 while the men's team of McCalla, Long, Corey Hertz and Austin Heitland finished fourth with a time of 3:17.93.
Moving into the field, Shawn Koch won the men's triple jump, leaping for a mark of 48-08.25 to rank him second in the conference. In the long jump, Weston Riesselman placed third with a season-best mark of 23-07.25 with Koch finishing right behind him in fourth with a jump of 23-04.75.
In the throwing ring, Isaac Holtz scored a personal-best in the discus competition, going 179-01.00 for third overall. Sarah Pate also notched a top-five finish for the women, placing fourth with a toss of 142-09.00.
Justin Baker continued to move up the rankings in the shot put for the Panthers, placing third at the Husker Invite with a mark of 58-05.75 that places him at No. 27 in the West Region. On the women's side, Jamie Lindstrom earned fifth overall in the shot put, coming away with a mark of 48-01.75.
The Panthers will return to action April 14-16 when they split time between the nationally renowned Mt. Sac Relays, the Tom Botts Invitational and the Beach Invitational.
