UNI Names March Student-Athletes of the Month

This months' honorees are Klint Carlson (Waverly, Iowa), Brette Correy (Epworth, Iowa), Sharnae Lamar (Des Moines, Iowa) and Dylan Peters (Denver, Iowa).
Klint Carlson - Basketball
Carlson averaged 12.4 points per game and shot 55.8 percent in the month of March. Carlson earned a spot on the MVC All-Tournament team. In the MVC title game vs. Evansville, Carlson set a career-high with 17 points as he made 8-of-12 shots from the field. Carlson scored 11 points against Texas in the NCAA Tournament as he made 4-of-5 shots from teh floor. Carlson tied his career-high with 17 points against Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Carlson drained three 3-pointers and was 7-of-14 from the field with four steals against the Aggies.
Brette Correy - Women's Outdoor Track and Field
Correy came away with two individual wins at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic on Saturday, starting the 2016 season on a high note. She opened the meet with a win in the 1,500 meters, scoring a huge PR of 4:37.20 to put her first in the Valley. She also won the women's 800 meter run, picking up her second win of the day with a time of 2:13.16, ranking her second in the MVC.Â
Sharnae Lamar - Women's Basketball
Lamar started all eight of UNI's games during the month of March, averaging a team-high 33.6 minutes, 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and an astounding 5.4 rebounds per game. Lamar, who started at point guard in all 35 games this season, finished the year with 195 assists, breaking the school record for season assists. Her record was set in part by her career-high and UNI single-game record 15 assists in UNI's second round WNIT win over Drake on March 19. The Des Moines, Iowa native also scored a career-high in points during March, knocking in 16 during the MVC Championship game in tournament. Lamar finished her career at UNI with two school record and ranked No. 7 all-time at UNI in career assists as well.
Dylan Peters - Wrestling
Peters earned his second All-American honor with a sixth-place finish in the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Peters kicked off the tournament with wins over two MAC opponents, including MAC champion and the tournament's No. 8 seed Barlow McGhee of Missouri. He followed it up with two first-period falls, knocking off No. 5 seed Ryan Millhof of Oklahoma. Peters suffered an injury in early December and had to medically forfeit to Millhof. He avenged that loss at nationals, pinning Millhof in 1 minute, 3 seconds. It was his 24th first-period fall of his career. After falling 6-4 to No. 15 David Terao of American, he medically forfeited his final match that gave him a shot at fifth place. He now has 36 career falls, which ranks him sixth among all Panthers for most career falls. Moza Fay sits in fifth with 37 career falls. The junior will return next year as UNI's only All-American, finishing 18-4 on the season. He is the 33rd Panther to earn at least two All-American honors.
