UNI Offense Defeats Defense, 45-25 to End Spring Practice

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa football program wrapped up spring practice tonight with the annual spring game, ending with the offense trumping the defense, 45-25.
The offense was highlighted by wide receiver Marcus Weymiller pulling in eight catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He grabbed a one-handed 20-yard receiving touchdown in the first quarter, ending with a streaking 62-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Senior quarterback Aaron Bailey took snaps in the first two quarters, but it was Eli Dunne who took the majority of the rein tonight. The sophomore finished the game with 15 completions for 145 yards along with 25 yards on the ground.
In the rushing game, J'Veyon Browning led the Panthers with 63 yards along with two catches for 16 yards. Also pouring in points was the kicking game, with Matt Easley and Austin Errthum knocking in multiple field goals over 40 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, UNI got to see a young secondary shine, including a key interception by Ray Buchanan Jr. Buchanan and D.J. Singleton both proved to be troublesome for the offense, closing in on close coverage on the deep ball.
The defensive line also got action and pressure on the quarterback tonight, with both Zach Skibinski and Rickey Neal picking up sacks. Leading the team in tackles tonight was Damon Hendrix, who finished with five while Singleton racked up four.
