Panthers Earn 35th Win of the Season, Defeat UNO 10-2

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Northern Iowa softball team used four straight multi-run innings on their way to defeating Nebraska-Omaha in five innings on Tuesday, 10-2. The Panthers (35-14) racked up 11 hits in the contest while six UNI batters tallied an RBI. UNI's 35^th win marked the third most wins in a season by a Panther squad, tying the number set by the 1988 and 1992 teams.

Kennedy Bailey drove in the first run of the day for UNI in the second inning, singling to center field to score Caitlin Wnek. Bailey Lange grabbed her first RBI later in the inning on a single that scored Courtney Krodinger before an Omaha error brought in Anna Varriano to put the Panthers up 3-0.

UNI continued to tack on runs in the third inning as Alicia Crivaro scored on a passed ball before Courtney Krodinger put another run on the board with a RBI single. Krodinger finished 2-3 at the plate on the day and added a run scored.

Back-to-back RBI singles from Wnek and Alyssa Buchanan in the fourth inning extended the UNI lead to 8-0.

A pair of UNI homeruns in the fifth inning put the Panthers up 10. Macey Wolfe hit a solo-shot to left-center field before Lange's second and third RBIs of the evening further extended the UNI lead. Lange posted a 2-4 performance at the plate, driving in a team-high three runs.

Buchanan earned her team-leading 16^th win of the season in the circle, tossing five innings while allowing just a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth, walking one batter along the way.

The Panthers will return to Missouri Valley Conference play tomorrow when they play game three of their three-game series with Drake. First pitch between the Panthers and Bulldogs is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
