CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team looked poised to move up the standings on day two of the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, however a handful of late bogeys left the Panthers in sixth place after 36 holes.
The Panthers had edged into fifth place with their sights set on fourth heading into the final set of holes at the Harborside International Golf Center (Port Course) in Chicago, Ill.
"We started really well today but just didn't finish the round the way we should have," UNI head coach John Bermel said. "We had a chance today to move up but I know we will be ready tomorrow for the final round."
UNI shot a team score of 303 on Monday - an improvement of eight shots from Sunday's round of 311. The Panthers were predicted to finish eighth in the pre-tournament coaches poll. After day two, UNI is four shots out of fourth and one shot out of fifth.
UNI's season stroke-leader Paige Van Dyk put on a scoring display Monday by going three-under on her opening nine holes. Van Dyk secured birdies at No. 4, No. 6 and No. 7 as she posted an outbound 33 on her card. She added another birdie on No. 14. Unfortunately, Van Dyk scored bogeys on No. 17 and No. 18 and had to settle for a 73. Van Dyk is tied for 35th overall after two rounds at 85-73 (158).

Rolinger added two more birdies on backside at No. 11 and No. 18 to complete her round of 74. Rolinger is tied for 16th with a two-round total of 78-74 (152). Rolinger has also played the par-5 holes the best in the field through the first two rounds. Rolinger is averaging 4.50 strokes on the eight par-5 holes and is four-under par on those holes.
Sarah McMichael continued her fine play and added another season-low tying round of 78 on Monday. McMichael recorded a birdie at No. 14. She is tied for 29th with a two-round total of 78-78 (156).
