
UNI Tallies MVC Road Victory at Evansville, 7-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team recorded its first Missouri Valley Conference victory of the season Sunday in a 7-0 triumph at Evansville.
UNI got the match underway by taking both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. It marks the sixth time this season that UNI began a match by scoring the doubles point.
UNI's No. 1 doubles pairing of Jieke Stroobant and Elvira Lopez cruised to a 6-0 sweep of UE's Marina Darzyan and Doreen Crasta. UNI's No. 2 doubles squad of Astrid Santos and Gisela Kemper topped UE's Marina Moreno and Andjela Brguljan, 6-1.
The Panthers used the momentum in doubles play and put it go use in singles. UNI recorded wins at all six singles slots.
Stroobant began the singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 win over UE's No. 1 Moreno. Lopez was able to hold off UE's Brguljan at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-1.
Santos notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over UE's Katie Delgado at No. 3 singles. Kemper scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory over UE's Darzyan at No. 4 singles. Kemper's singles win gives her a team-best 17th singles victory. Kemper also moves to 7-3 at No. 4 singles in dual play.
UNI's Sydney Wolfe was extended to a third-set super tiebreaker but prevailed over UE's Kennedy Craig at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
UNI's Eve Small closed out the action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over UE's Leah Helpingstine.
The Panthers will be in action again next weekend at home with a pair of MVC duals. UNI will play host to Illinois State on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Panthers will then take on Bradley on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Byrnes Tennis Center in Waterloo (weather permitting).
