CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Senior Stephanie Davison was honored this week by the Cedar Valley after earning the Cedar Valley Sports Commission Pursuing Victory With Honor Award as part of the Cedar Valley Character Counts Awards banquet on April 12.
Davison is the second UNI student-athlete to be named the winner of the Pursuing Victory With Honor Award after former UNI football player Tyler Sievertsen received the award in 2014. The award is presented to an athletics team, coach, student-athlete or organization that demonstrates commitment to sportsmanship and good character.
The Pursuing Victory With Honor Award winners exude the six pillars of character which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. After serving as a team captain for the Panthers for three years, it is safe to say that Davison has excelled in all six aspects of her time here in the Cedar Valley.
The Maple Grove, Minn. native has been an active member of the Cedar Falls community since stepping foot on campus as a freshman. She is an avid volunteer with the Salvation Army, New Aldaya Senior Center, Lowell Elmentary School, Covenant Rehab Center, Orange Elementary and with the Boys & Girls Club. She is the co-President of the UNI Student Athlete Advisory Committee, organizing events like Panthers Play, Junior Panther Day, Hygiene Hijack and the Park-to-Park race.
She has served as a mentor not only on the basketball court, but in her faith as well, serving as the President of the UNI Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She mentors other student-athletes while leading weekly bible studies along with creating the now annual "Coaches and Staff Appreciation Dinner."
Davison, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., has already been honored this season for her accomplishments on and off the court. Earlier this season, Davison was named one of 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA as part of the WBCA Allstate Good Works Team. As part of the team, Davison will be recognized during the 2016 WBCA Convention and at the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four along with getting to participate in a local service project while in Indianapolis.
The two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete selection is majoring in graphic technologies with a minor in graphic design, landing spots on the MVC Honor Roll in back-to-back seasons along with earning the MVC President's Council Academic Award and the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
Along with being awarded the MVC Good Neighbord Award this season, she also named to the WBCA Allstate Good Works Team as just one of 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA women's basketball . She was honored at the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four along with getting to participate in a local service project at the Indiana University Health Simon Cancer Center.
Davison finished her career on the court ranked No. 6 all-time at UNI in career games played with 127 and No. 16 in career minutes at 2,917. She was a part of three post-season appearances by the Panthers along with helping lead the team to a regular season MVC title this year.
