Lange Named Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week by MVC

University of Northern Iowa freshman pitcher Bailey Lange has been named Pitcher of the Week and Newcomer of the Week by the Missouri Valley Conference as announced on Monday.

Lange (Sioux Falls, SD/Washington) got it done for the Panthers both in the circle and in the batter's box this past week, helping UNI to a 3-1 record with wins against in-state rival Iowa State and MVC-foe Bradley while recording a 0.50 earned run average. On Wednesday against the Cyclones, Lange tossed her first collegiate complete game, striking out a career-high eight batters in a 3-2 win. The freshman recorded another first on Saturday, this time a complete-game shutout against Bradley in a 9-0 victory. At the plate, Lange hit .545 for UNI while racking up a .688 on-base percentage and recording two multi-hit games. In the box during her shutout performance on Saturday, Lange hit a home run in the fifth inning that gave UNI a five run cushion.

Lange and UNI will be back in action tomorrow when they take a break from MVC play and travel to Iowa City for a contest against Iowa. First pitch between the Panthers and Hawkeyes is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
