UNI Lands 3 On All-MVC Teams; Lamar On All-Defensive

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball program landed three student-athletes on the 2016 Missouri Valley All-Conference teams also earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team, it was announced today by the league office.
Junior Madison Weekly and Amber Sorenson headline the All-Conference first-team while Jen Keitel received honorable mention status. Senior Sharnae Lamar was also honored with a selection to the MVC All-Defensive Team.
Weekly has earned first-team honors in back-to-back seasons, becoming the sixth player in UNI history to earn multiple first-team selections, joining Jaqui Kalin (2013, 2011, 2010), Cassie Hager (2006, 2005), Alex Cook (2005, 2004, 2003), Amy Swisher (2004, 2003, 2002) and Allison Starr (2000, 1999, 1998).
Weekly has started all 29 games for UNI this season, averaging 17.7 points per game and 19.2 points in conference play. She has scored 20-or-more points in 10 games this season, including four of the last six. She has 514 points, ranking her eighth all-time at UNI in season points and fourth in season scoring average. She is second in the Valley in points this season, along with being ranked in the top-15 in assists (No. 15, 70), free throw percentage (No. 2, .803), 3-point percentage (No. 1, .409), three-pointers made (No. 2, 76) and minutes played (No. 3, 33.9 pg).
Sorenson earned her first All-Conference selection after finishing the regular season ranked No. 1 in the Valley and No. 12 in NCAA Division I women's basketball in three-pointers made (88). She is ranked second all-time at UNI in threes made in a season, just one shy of tying the school record 89 set by Kalin in 2013. The senior from Caledonia, Minn. is averaging 13.6 points per game this season, adding 4.3 rebounds.
Keitel, a first-team selection from the 2013-14 season, has started at post for the Panthers in all 29 games after sitting out last season with an injury. She joined Weekly in the 1,000-point club this season and is averaging 10.7 points per game this season. She is ranked No. 10 all-time at UNI in career field goal percentage and became just the third player in UNI history to have 500+ career points, 500+ career rebounds and 100 career blocks.
Lamar rounds out UNI's honorees, earning All-Defensive team. She is the eighth player in UNI history to earn a spot on the MVC All-Defensive team, joining junior Alyssa Johnson who was selected in 2014-15. Lamar has racked up a team-high 41 steals, and at just 5-2, is ranked third on the team in rebounds, averaging 4.0 per game.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, March 11 when they play the winner of game one (Wichita State vs. Bradley) at noon in the iWireless Center in Moline, Ill.
