Ross Named MVC Player of the Week

Chelsea Ross has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after helping the University of Northern Iowa softball team to a 4-1 record during weekend play at the Wooo Pig Classic.
Ross (Kansas City, Mo.) posted a .526 batting average during the five game span, racking up six RBI and 10 hits along the way. On Friday, the senior hit a two-run homer to help UNI gain a 3-0 advantage in an eventual win over Wright State. Against Buffalo on Saturday, Ross with 2-4 with two RBI to help her team secure a 7-1 win. Ross tallied three hits later that evening against Arkansas, her most hits in a game this season. She provided consistent power at the three spot for the Panthers, racking up a .737 slugging percentage for the weekend.
Through 21 games this season, Ross is leading the Panthers in hits (24), RBI (21), and batting with a .400 average.
Ross and the Panthers will continue non-conference tournament play on Friday when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for a five game road trip, beginning against Nebraska-Omaha at 9 a.m.
