COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Northern Iowa softball team fell to No. 15 Missouri 6-0 in their game Wednesday evening that was originally scheduled to be held in Cedar Falls. Kristin Lock recorded the lone hit for the Panthers (22-8) as the senior finished 1-2 at the plate in the game.
The Tigers opened the contest with a two-run first, scoring on two hits and an error to grab an early advantage. They followed it up with a three hit inning that produced three runs to give them a 5-0 lead.
UNI's defense adjusted in the third inning as Chelsea Ross replaced Alyssa Buchanan in the circle after two innings of work. In her first full inning, Ross kept the Tigers out of the scoring column with some solid defense, including a quick snag and toss by Caitlin Wnek to get Missouri's Taylor Gadbois out at first.
The Panthers would hold the Tigers scoreless until a single to right field in the fifth brought in a run before Samantha Olson gunned down Chloe Rathburn at the plate from right field.
Freshman pitcher Bailey Lange tossed the final inning for UNI, striking out the first batter she faced on her way to completing the lone one, two, three inning for the Panthers on the evening.
UNI will resume Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday, Mar. 25 when they travel to Evansville, Ind. for a three-game series with the Aces, beginning with a doubleheader at noon.
