Krodinger, Buchanan Honored by MVC After 5-0 Weekend

Courtney Krodinger and Alyssa Buchanan have been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after helping the Panthers finish a perfect 5-0 at the Jayhawk Invitational over the weekend.
Krodinger (Festus, Mo.) batted .727 over the five-game span, driving in three runs from the eight spot in the UNI lineup while recording a .765 on-base percentage. In an 8-0 win over Omaha on Friday, Krodinger went a perfect 2-2 with two runs scored and two walks. On Saturday, the freshman had a perfect 4-4 showing at the plate and racked up a 1.000 on-base percentage during the day. Against MVC foe Missouri State, Krodinger recorded a RBI single to tie things up at 1-1 in the second inning before UNI took the lead in the fourth inning on a Krodinger RBI single. Against Western Illinois on Sunday, Krodinger extended the Panther led in the top of the seventh inning with a RBI single in an eventual 4-0 win. The infielder is batting .348 on the season.
Buchanan (Fisher, Ind.) made four appearances and recorded a 0.67 ERA over the weekend, beginning play with an 8-0 win over Omaha, allowing just two hits while striking out four along the way. After allowing a hit to open up the ballgame against Missouri State on Saturday, Buchanan retired the next 17 Bear hitters en route to a 4-2 victory. The pitcher performed well in pressure filled situations, coming in with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh against Kansas, grabbing the save in a 4-2 win. On Sunday, Buchanan entered the circle with the bases loaded and a one-run lead, retiring three straight hitters to keep Western Illinois scoreless in an eventual win. Over her last eight appearances, Buchanan has tallied seven wins and a save while leading the MVC in wins (11) and opposing batting average (.171).
The Panthers (20-6) will begin MVC play on Saturday when they travel to Wichita, Kan. for a three-game series against Wichita State. Game one between the Panthers and the Shockers will start on Saturday at noon.
