Washpun Named MVC Player of the Week

University of Northern Iowa senior guard Wes Washpun has been named the Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball player of the week for his play in two wins over Indiana State and Evansville.
Washpun (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/C.R. Washington HS/Univ. of Tennessee) averaged a team-best 15.0 points per game and helped lead UNI to a pair of league wins to close the regular season. He scored 16 points in UNI's 66-44 victory over Indiana State. Washpun drained all four of his free throw attempts against the Sycamores.
Washpun then scored a team-high 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, blocked three shots, handed out five assists and was credited with three steals in a 54-52 win at Evansville on Saturday. Washpun drained all six of his free throw attempts against the Purple Aces to close out a perfect week at the line (10-for-10).
It is the third time this season that Washpun has earned the MVC's top weekly honor.
UNI will be in action Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Southern Illinois in the quarterfinals of the 2016 MVC Tournament held at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
