ST. LOUIS. Mo. – Senior guard Stephanie Davison has been named a recipient of the 2015-16 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award, it was announced today by the league office.
The award is given in an effort to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes. Ten student-athletes have been named by Commissioner Doug Elgin as the honorees for the 2015-16 Winter season. Davison joins former Panther Jaqui Kalin as UNI women's basketball athletes that have earned the award, with Kalin being a two-time recipient.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees.
Davison, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., has already been honored this season for her accomplishments on and off the court. Earlier this season, Davison was named one of 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA as part of the WBCA Allstate Good Works Team. As part of the team, Davison will be recognized during the 2016 WBCA Convention and at the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four along with getting to participate in a local service project while in Indianapolis.
The senior has been an avid volunteer in the Cedar Valley since setting foot on campus, working with the Salvation Army, New Aldaya Senior Center, Lowell Elementary School, Covenant Rehab Center, Orange Elementary Clinic and the Boys & Girls Club. She is the co-President of the UNI Student Athlete Advisory Committee, helping volunteer and coordinate events like Panthers Play, Junior Panther Day, Hygiene Hijack and the Park-to-Park race.
She also serves as the President of the UNI Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serving as a mentor to other student-athletes while leading weekly bible studies. She was also an integral part in creating the now annual "Coaches and Staff Appreciate Dinner."
Davison, who plans to graduate with a degree in graphic technologies with a minor in graphic design, is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete selection. She has been a part of the MVC Honor Roll in back-to-back seasons along with receiving the MVC President's Council Academic Award and the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
