Strong Performances Pace UNI at Wisconsin Open

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up competition at the Wisconsin Open on Friday night, finishing the day with personal-bests highlighted by standout performances in the field events.
The throws crews got things started for the Panthers, with Jamie Lindstrom throwing a huge personal-best in the women's shot put. Lindstrom finished second overall with a toss of 52-10.75 to rank her second all-time at UNI and second in the MVC this season. Jake Humpal clinched a PR in the men's shot put, finishing fourth overall with a throw of 55-5.00.
Lindstrom and Chloe Schmidt turned in strong performances in the weight throw, with Lindstrom finishing in fourth with a season-best mark of 60-11.25 while Schmidt added a personal-best throw of 59-5.50 for sixth. On the men's side, Brad Walski, Isaac Holtz and Evan Colfack all secured career-bests in the event, with Walksi leading the way in third place overall.
Moving into the jumps, Chaley Rath posted a new indoor personal-best in the high jump, winning the event with a height of 5-8.75 to put her first in the Valley. Kassidy Sharp finished up the meet in second place in the high jump with a mark of 5-6.50.
Rounding out UNI's top field performances in the field were UNI's jumpers in Tatiana Rice, Weston Riesselman and Shawn Koch. Rice placed third overall in the women's long jump competition with a season-best jump of 17-11.75 while Riesselman picked up a win on the men's side with a leap of 22-11.00. Shawn Koch also finished with another victory in the men's triple jump with a season-best of 48-10.00 to remain ranked second in the conference.
On the track, Brandon Carnes kicked things off with a win in the men's 60 meter dash. He won the preliminary race and followed it up with a time of 6.68 in the finals for the win.
UNI shined in the hurdles, picking up two wins from Daurice Fountain and Paige Knodle. Fountain turned in two personal-bests in the men's race with an 8.03 in the preliminaries and then an 8.00 in the finals for the win. Knodle won the women's race with a time of 8.58.
In the long sprints, Brynell Yount finished first overall in the 400 meter dash, her first collegiate win. She came across the finish line in a career-best time of 58.52.
UNI will return to action when they get set to host the MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 27-28 inside the UNI-Dome.
