ESPNU Selects Wichita State-UNI Game for Jan. 8
12/9/2016 10:11:00 AM | Men's Basketball
The Missouri Valley Conference announced today that ESPN has designated networks for two MVC men's basketball telecasts for the first weekend in January.
On Sunday, Jan. 8, ESPN has confirmed that Wichita State at UNI will air on ESPNU at 3 p.m. (CT). A second MVC game that day will air on The Valley on ESPN3, featuring Evansville at Drake. Start time is also 3 p.m. (CT).
Wichita State and UNI both have reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons, combining for six tourney wins. The Panthers are two-time defending State Farm MVC Tournament champions and the Shockers are three-time defending MVC regular-season champs. UNI has made seven NCAA Tournament appearances since 2004, while the Shockers have been to five straight NCAA Tournaments.
Five Sundays this year will reflect the ESPN netflex selection process (one game appearing on The Valley on ESPN3 and the other on ESPNU) this season.
"The utilization of the netflex process for our Sunday ESPNU telecasts has been an important piece in ESPN's programming priorities for MVC men's basketball," said Jack R. Watkins, MVC Associate Commissioner. "The willingness by ESPN to permit pre-determined, consistent times on both networks is extremely helpful for our men's and women's basketball programs in a number of ways, including home game management and travel for the visiting teams."
