CLEVELAND – Senior Karter Schult has been named to the 2016 FCS Athletics Directors Association All-America Team, it was announced Wednesday.
The fourth annual award recognizes the top student-athletes from FCS institutions at 11 different positions. The 2016 class includes student-athletes from 11 different institutions, representing six different conferences, voted on by a national panel consisting of media and SIDs.
"The FCS ADA is very proud of the accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and on the field of these football student-athletes that have earned this wonderful recognition," FCS ADA President Mark Wilson said.
From the 11 players that were selected, a national Offensive Player of the Year and a Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on a later date and recognized at the National Championship game in Frisco, Texas on Jan. 7.
Schult is the third Panther to receive FCS ADA All-America honors, joining Michael Schmadeke (2014) and Deiondre' Hall (2015). This is Schult's fifth All-America honor this year, also being named to the AP, AFCA, STATS and Walter Camp All-America squads.
Schult finished his career at UNI ranked first all-time in career tackles for loss (56.0), yards from tackles for loss (266), yards from sacks (215) and quarterback hurries (20). He also ranks second in career sacks with 35.5.
He finished third on the team in total tackles with 69 in 2016, leading all defensive linemen in the league in the category. Along with his towering sack (17.0) and tackle for loss (24.0) total, Schult also racked up four quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, a blocked kick, a safety and his first-career interception.
Off the field, Schult was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team selection along with becoming a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete first-team honoree. He was also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman.
