Schult Named AP FCS All-American

ASSOCIATED PRESS – Senior defensive lineman Karter Schult has been named to the 2016 Associated Press FCS All-America first-team, it was announced today.
Schult is UNI's 11th AP All-America first-team selection under the direction of head coach Mark Farley and the 26th selection in program history. This is Schult's third All-America honor of his career, also earning STATS FCS All-America second-team in 2015 and College Sports Madness All-America first-team in 2016.
He is one of 13 student-athletes representing the Missouri Valley Football Conference on the 2016 team, including six first-team selections. The Tripoli, Iowa, native headlines the defensive All-America team, leading the nation in sacks with 17.0.
Schult started all 11 games in 2016, recording 69 tackles. He set a UNI record for single-season tackles for loss with 24.0 and is second all-time in single-season sacks with his 17. He holds the career record at UNI for tackles for loss with 56 along with setting the Panther record for career QB hurries at 20.
He was named the MVFC Defensive Player of the Year this season along with College Sports Madness FCS Defensive Player of the Year. He is currently a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the best defensive player in FCS football. The winner will be announced on Jan. 6.
