UNI Secures 77-34 Exhibition Win Over Maryville

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team picked up a 77-34 exhibition win over Maryville on Monday night with the Panther defense stealing the show.
UNI held Maryville to just 27-percent from the field and 12-percent from the three after the Saints were shooting 30-percent from the arc in 2015-16. UNI's 43-point win was the largest margin of defeat in an exhibition game under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren.
UNI was led by a pair of seniors with Madison Weekly and Angie Davison both contributing 12 points each. The Panthers had 12 players see action against Maryville with 11 scoring at least a point. True freshman Megan Maahs put in seven points with two blocks with Hannah Schonhardt leading the team in boards with seven.
The Panthers started the game on a 9-0 run with seven of those points scored by Weekly. The Saints didn't score its first field goal till the 4:43 mark with Maryville going 0-for-4 from the three-point line.
Davison scored seven of her 12 points in the second quarter while the Panthers held Maryville to just one field goal in the period. UNI outrebounded Maryville 13-4 in the second quarter also holding the Saints to nill from the arc.
UNI outscored Maryville 18-4 in the third quarter with the Panthers forcing seven turnovers. In the fourth quarter, true freshman Abby Gerrits scored all seven of her points with Dariann Garrison-Nickerson adding six.
UNI tips off its regular season this Friday, Nov. 11 on the road at IUPUI. The game is set for a 6 p.m. CT start.
