Schult, Rathje Earn Scholar-Athlete First-Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Seniors Karter Schult and Robert Rathje were named to the 2016 Missouri Valley Football Conference Scholar-Athlete first-team today, headlining a group of four Panther student-athletes that earned spots on the list.
Both Schult and Rathje are two-time Scholar-Athlete honorees with Rathje earning second-team recognition in 2015 and Schult receiving back-to-back first-team nods. Junior Jared Farley and sophomore Cal Twait were named to the honorable mention team.
Rathje, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team this season, started all 11 games for the Panthers at center while Twait started at left tackle. They were both an integral part of the offensive line that helped UNI to 1,797 yards on the ground and 2,178 passing yards including 300-plus total yards in four of the last five games. Rathje is majoring in movement and exercise science while Twait is pursuing a degree in physical education.
On the defensive side of the ball, Schult and Farley were two key leaders for the Panthers, racking up a combined 154 tackles. They both started all 11 games with Schult leading the team in sacks (17.0) and tackles for loss (24.0) and Farley leading the team in total tackles with 80. Schult will complete his degree in movement and exercise science this spring while Farley is majoring in business administration.
