Christensen Named Assistant A.D. for Development

University of Northern Iowa Director of Athletics David Harris has announced the hiring of Nathan Christensen as Assistant Athletic Director for Development/Director of the Panther Scholarship Club. Christensen is set to begin his duties at UNI on Dec. 12.
"We are excited to have Nathan join our staff as the Assistant A.D. for Development/Director of the Panther Scholarship Club (PSC)," Harris said. "Nathan brings a wealth of experience, great passion for building relationships and a strong desire to be a Panther. Additionally, as an Iowa native, he is familiar with the culture and the hard working people of our great state. The PSC is an important part of our financial future, and Nathan is the right fit for us at this critical time. I have confidence in his ability to help increase our membership and donations so that we can achieve our goals as a department. We are fortunate to have him join our team." Â Â
Christensen, a Ringsted, Iowa, native comes to UNI having served as an assistant athletic director for external operations at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Christensen was responsible for successfully developing and executing the annual athletic department revenue generation plan that saw a record of $2.9 million for the 2016 fiscal year. The Mavericks department has seen increased annual revenue of 54 percent since 2013. Christensen served as a key liaison between the athletic department and the Minnesota State, Mankato Foundation and University Advancement that supports more than 450 student-athletes.
"I am truly grateful for the opportunity to join the coaches and staff at the University of Northern Iowa," Christensen said. "I look forward to connecting with the numerous UNI alumni, donors, fans and ticket holders in the near future, and I am confident that together we can continue to build a championship-caliber experience for the student-athletes. I cannot thank David Harris enough for the opportunity to join the Panther family. My family and I are looking forward to being a part of the Cedar Valley community."
Christensen solicited major corporate funding and other outside revenue sources at Minnesota State that included major gifts fundraising, annual giving programs, scholarship endowments, corporate sponsorship sales, special event fundraising, marketing, banding, licensing and season ticket sales and fulfillment.
He served as graduate assistant at Minnesota State, Mankato, in the athletic marketing and promotions office from 2008-2010. He served as interim director of marketing in the 2010-11 academic year, before taking after as Director of Marketing and Sales at Mankato from 2011-2013.
Christensen earned his bachelor of science in sports management from Minnesota State, Mankato, in 2008. He also obtained his master's degree in sports management at Minnesota State, Mankato, in 2010.
Christensen is an active member of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
Christensen, and his wife, Kalli, have a daughter, Eleanor.
