The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa football program hosts South Dakota State on Saturday, Nov. 19 for its final regular season game of the year. The game is set for a 4 p.m. CT kick.
About the Jackrabbits: South Dakota State enters the game against UNI 7-3 overall and 6-1 in Valley play. The Jackrabbits' only conference loss came against Illinois State, falling to the Redbirds 38-21 on Oct. 29. Last Time Against South Dakota State: UNI defeated No. 10 South Dakota State 10-7 on the road in 2015, sparking a seven-game winning streak that took UNI into the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. South Dakota State had the ball on the UNI 11-yard-line with 1:31 remaining in the game, but the Panther defense came up with the biggest stop of the game on fourth-and-one, forcing the Jackrabbits to turn the ball over on downs.
Week 10 Awards: For the second consecutive week, senior Karter Schult was named MVFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in UNI's win over No. 17 Western Illinois (11/12).
Three for Three: Senior Michael Malloy has had seven rushing touchdowns in the last three games. He finished the game against Western Illinois (11/12) with two, the fourth game out of the last five he has scored a touchdown. It was also the third game he has had multiple touchdowns, also scoring three against Indiana State (11/5) and two against Missouri State (10/22).
Cracking Ranks: Senior Karter Schult has recorded at least one sack in nine of the 10 games this season, giving him 16.0 for a loss of 88 yards. He finished UNI's win over Western Illinois (11/12) with 3.0, brining his career total to 34.5, moving him to No. 2 all-time at UNI.
Leading the Nation: Karter Schult is currently leads the FCS and FBS in sacks with 16.0 and tackles for loss with 22.5.
Continue the Momentum: Senior Michael Malloy rushed for a career-high 92 yards in UNI's win over Western Illinois (11/12). His 92 yards was on a career-high 19 carries, averaging 4.8 yards per carry for two touchdowns. It was his second consecutive game to reach career-highs on the ground, also rushing for 84 yards against Indiana State (11/5).
Finalist: Karter Schult is currently a finalist for two prestigious awards in the William V. Campbell Trophy and the Buck Buchanan Award. The William V. Campbell Trophy is the academic heisman for all divisions of football while the Buck Buchanan Award is given to the top defensive performer of the year in FCS football.
Rima Tima: Freshman Jalen Rima finished the game against the Fighting Leathernecks (11/12) with a career-high 79 receiving yards.
