UNI Downs Drake For 39th Straight Time

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad posted its 39th straight victory over the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday in the Knapp Center, 3-0. UNI won by set scores of 27-25, 25-22, 25-22.
UNI moved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Drake fell to 11-9 overall and 2-4 in league action.
The match had a defensive feel as the Panthers and Bulldogs each posted 69 digs in the match. UNI came into the match ranked No. 1 in the nation in digs/set (18.61).
The Panthers rallied from a pair of six-point deficits in the opening set, including a 15-9 Drake lead. The Panthers used eight kills from Bri Weber and two service aces from Amie Held to come back and take the opening set, 27-25.
Weber recorded her 10th double-double of the season and 28th of her career with 16 kills and 15 digs. Heather Hook notched her fourth double-double this season and 15th of her career with 38 assists and 10 digs. Kayla Haneline tallied 10 kills and a team-best five blocks in the three-set road triumph. Piper Thomas also added 10 kills.
UNI will stay on the road next weekend with matches at Bradley on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Loyola on Saturday at 7 p.m.
NOTES: UNI head coach Bobbi Petersen improved her mark against the Bulldogs to 32-0 ... Kendyl Sorge recorded her fourth straight 20-plus dig effort with 23 digs ... Drake's last win in the series came Nov. 23, 1996.
