CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Mother Nature has given UNI softball more time to drum up pledges for this year's annual Hit-a-Thon now scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 11.
The event was set for today but has been moved due to weather concerns. In addition to current student-athletes, celebrity coaches will be going to bat for UNI softball in an event similar to a home run derby.
Panther basketball coach Ben Jacobson returns for his second year. He will be joined by football coach Mark Farley and wrestling coach Doug Schwab. Women's basketball coach Tanya Warren has been raising funds to participate and will be represented by UNI academic adviser Jadyn Spencer, who played for Alabama. Former volleyball player Eryca (Hingtgen) Bass, softball's strength and conditioning coach, also will be hitting.
Current student-athletes on the team and celebrity coaches have been seeking pledges based on how far they hit. Jacobson is leading the coaches' race with $3 a foot.
One-time donations also have been accepted. Farley and Bass each have at least $100 pledged from donors willing to give a one-time donation.
Media and the public are invited to come out and enjoy the excitement at 5 p.m. Oct. 11 at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
For questions or donations to the Hit-a-Thon, contact UNI assistant softball coach Matt Egger at (319) 273-4747 or via email at matt.egger@uni.edu.
