WATERLOO, Iowa - The three seeded University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team fell to the Loyola Ramblers in the Missouri Valley Conference quarterfinals Sunday afternoon, by a 1-0 score line.
The sixth-seeded Ramblers pulled ahead 20 minutes in on a near-post shot that found the back of the net. The Panthers would maintain possession in the Loyola half for the majority of the period generating a few quality looks. Brynell Yount had the best chance for the Panthers, firing a wicked shot just outside the 18-yard box that was saved.
The second half featured more of the first with Sarah Brandt sending in two free kicks that narrowly missed the mark. As a team, the Panthers had eight shots.
The two teams who previously met weeks ago played a very physical game with the two teams combining for 25 fouls and four yellow cards in a match where the referee's whistle was well heard.
Despite increased pressure in the second half the team was unable to find an equalizer. The third-seeded Panthers finish the season with an 8-8-3 record, finishing a Panther-best 7-2-1 at home.
