Panthers Win 5th Straight With 5-Setter at Loyola

CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad extended its win streak to five in a row with a five-set triumph over the Loyola Ramblers at Gentile Arena. UNI won by set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 15-6.
UNI (15-7 overall, 5-3 MVC) stayed perfect against Loyola (9-12 overall, 4-4 MVC) in the all-time series between the two schools. UNI improved to 13-0 in matches vs. Loyola.Â
The Panthers entered in a five-set MVC match for the fourth time this season. UNI had come up on the short end of five-set decisions in all three against Illinois State, Southern Illinois and Missouri State. This time the Panthers found a way to secure the win in the decisive set.
The Panthers were led by a trio of double-double efforts from Bri Weber (19 kills, 10 digs), Amie Held (15 kills, 17 digs) and Heather Hook (54 assists, 12 digs). Weber also tied a season-high with three service aces, when she notched all three of them in succession in the second set.
Piper Thomas added 13 kills and Kayla Haneline contributed with 11 kills. Lindsey Schulz tallied a team-high four blocks in the victory.Â
UNI will return home to the McLeod Center next weekend for a pair of conference matches. UNI will take on Evansville on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup with Southern Illinois also at 7 p.m.
NOTES: UNI head coach Bobbi Petersen moved to 9-0 all-time vs. Loyola ... Weber notched her 12th double-double of the season and 30th of her career ... Held recorded her 12th double-double of the season and 26th of her career ... Hook secured her sixth double-double this year and 17th of her career.
