Join us at Pepper's: UNI will host a weekly press luncheon at Pepper's in Cedar Falls on Mondays at noon. All of the in-season head coaches will address the media with a weekly recap/preview of their team and then will be open to questions. All media and fans are welcome to attend.
Scoring Matchup: Out of the 10 players ranked in the top-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference this season, UNI and Missouri State hold four of the spots. Madison Weekly (16.4 ppg) and Amber Sorenson (14.5 ppg) sit at No. 2 and No. 6 while the Lady Bears' Tyonna Snow (13.8 ppg) and Kenzie Williams (13.4 ppg) are ranked 7th and 10th, respectively.
On Point: Junior Madison Weekly scored a career-high 28 points against Southern Illinois (1/3), finishing with a career-high 11 made field goals. She is averaging 16.4 points per game this season, giving her 12.2 points per game in her career to rank her 11th all-time at UNI. Both of Weekly's career-high games have come against Southern Illinois. Her 28 points this season beat her previous career-high of 27 that she set against SIU on Jan. 9, 2015.
Gaining Experience: Angie Davison scored a career-high 10 points against Evansville (1/1), going 5-for-8 from the field and 50-percent from the arc. She also played a career-high 30 minutes in her fourth career start as a Panther.
Boards on Boards: Jen Keitel finished the game against Evansville (1/1) with eight rebounds, moving her into 15th all-time at UNI in career rebounds (524). She split the game with four defensive and four offensive boards, moving her into 12th all-time as a Panther in career offensive rebounds (227).
Defense Counts: Evansville guard Sara Dickey only scored nine points against the Panthers after heading into the game averaging 16.4. It was only the second time in her career that she has been held to single-digits in a regular season conference game, both instances happening against the Panthers. UNI held Dickey to five points on Jan. 10, 2014 when she came into the game averaging 18.8 ppg.
Line Judge: UNI finished the game against Evansville (1/1) shooting 80-percent from the free throw line. It was the fourth consecutive game shooting 80-percent or higher from the line prior to the game against Southern Illinois (1/3). The Panthers are currently ranked second in the league in free throw percentage, going 73.2 percent from the line.
Five for 500: UNI currently has five student-athletes that have surpassed the 500 career-point mark. Madison Weekly leads the team with 857 career points in 70 games. Jen Keitel has racked up 847 points through 84 games with senior Stephanie Davison at 713 (105 games). Amber Sorenson has quickly jumped over the 600-point mark and is closing in on 700 points, sitting at 696 in 84 career games. Hannah Schonhardt joined the 500-point club this season, scoring 516 in 76 games.
She Does it All: Jen Keitel has made a name for herself in the Missouri Valley Conference as a scorer, averaging 10.0 points during her four seasons with the Panthers. Keitel has also been dominant on the defensive side of the ball, something that is evident this season. Keitel is currently ranked in the top-10 in both blocks (7th) and rebounds (7th) in the Valley this season and ranked in the top-15 in both categories in career all-time records at UNI.
Consecutive Starts: Junior Madison Weekly has started in 32 straight games for the Panthers. The Atkins, Iowa native has started all 13 games this season along with all 32 in 2014-15. She started the first 11 games of her career as a true freshman in 2013-14, but due to an early season injury, had to come off the bench for the remainder of the season.
It Is a Plus: Madison Weekly has recorded a team-high 443 minutes this season. She has racked up a team-high 213 points. When Weekly is on the court, UNI outscores its opponents by 30 points.
On the Road: While some athletes struggle to gain rhythm during road games, Madison Weekly and Amber Sorenson have been thriving. In the three true road games this season for the Panthers, Weekly is averaging 17.7 points per game while Sorenson is adding 17.0.
Winning Nature: The 2014-15 season marked the sixth straight season the Panthers have won 17 or more games. It is the 13th season since the women's basketball program joined NCAA Division I basketball in 1982 that UNI has achieved the mark.
