Bears Stun Panthers, 59-58

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State Bears used a 6-0 run in the final three minutes to score a 59-58 victory over the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team on Wednesday at JQH Arena.
Missouri State (5-10 overall, 1-2 MVC) trailed by 10 points at 50-40 with 9:17 left in the game. The Bears finished the game on a 19-8 run. Missouri State was led in scoring by Chris Kendrix with 17 points.
UNI (9-7 overall, 1-2 MVC) drained 11 three-pointers but lost for the first time this season when leading at the half. UNI held a 28-26 halftime lead against Missouri State. UNI was led in scoring by Wes Washpun and Matt Bohannan as each tallied 15 points.
Missouri State tied the game at 53-53 on a layup by Obediah Church with 4:51 left. Church missed the free throw that would have completed a 3-point play. Washpun scored with 3:46 on a jumper at the shot clock buzzer and Wyatt Lohaus added a triple with 2:59 left to put UNI back on top by five at 58-53.
The Bears' Kendrix made one of two free throws with 2:40 left and Ryan Kreklow split a pair of free throws with 1:54 remaining to trim the lead to three at 58-55. Kreklow added two more free throws with 42.4 seconds to cut the UNI lead to one at 58-57. UNI's Klint Carlson missed a shot with :13 left and MSU's Dequon Miller drove the length of the floor and made a layup with 6.1 left to give the Bears the lead.
UNI's Washpun took the inbounds pass and drove to the right-hand side of the lane in the closing seconds. His shot hit the rim and bounced away giving the Bears the win.
UNI will be back in action on Saturday at home against the Drake Bulldogs. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
