1/20/2016 1:00:00 PM | Wrestling
CLEVELAND, Ohio – UNI wrestler Trevor Jauch was named Wrestler of the Week by the Mid-American Conference today.
He is the second Panther to earn conference honors this year. Freshman Bryce Steiert won Wrestler of the Week Dec. 3.
Jauch not only knocked off his second top-20 opponent of the year, he won both of his duals at two different weight classes.
The senior moved up from 141 pounds to 149 pounds to take on Virginia Tech's Sal Mastriani, a returning NCAA qualifier who has been ranked for much of his career. Jauch had a takedown early in the match and racked up more than five and a half minutes of riding time before winning 10-3.
Jauch moved back down to 141 pounds Sunday to beat No. 9 Chris Mecate of Old Dominion. His first top-20 win was a fall over then-ranked No. 15 Jamel Hudson of Hofstra in the first dual of the season.
Jauch sparked the team's dominate 24-12 win over ODU with a 5-3 decision over Mecate. Jauch had racked up about a minute of riding time, but he trailed 3-2 to start the third period. The wrestlers started neutral. With about 15 seconds left in the match, Jauch got the takedown and was awarded riding time to win 5-3.
Jauch competed unattached last season after transferring from Missouri to UNI. His brother, Ryan, is a former Panther wrestler. Trevor Jauch is now 14-6 overall, 2-1 in the MAC.

He got a reversal and another takedown in the second, and riding time gave him the 11-0 win. He followed that up with a dominating 16-0 technical fall win over Devin Nye of Kent State, finishing it in 3:53. Hutchison nearly pinned the heavyweight twice, notching three nearfalls and two takedowns to complete the victory. Hutchison has won his last three conference duals, and is 8-4 in duals this season.
- Anthony Tutolo, Kent State
Sophomore, Concord, Ohio (Lake Catholic)
Tutolo came through with a pair of key victories this past weekend, helping Kent State go 2-0 in dual meets. The Golden Flashes trailed Ohio 15-12, with only two matches remaining when Tutolo took the mat on Jan. 15, in Athens. Tied 1-1 with Noah Forrider after regulation and sudden victory, Tutolo rode out Forrider in the tiebreaker period and earned an escape for his first career MAC dual victory. Two days later in Ypsilanti, Tutolo found his team trailing 14-10 with three matches remaining, before taking on Kyle Springer. A third period takedown clinched a 3-2 victory for Tutolo, which once again made the difference in the dual meet.
- Matt Manley, Missouri
RS Junior, Perry, Okla. (Perry)
Mizzou redshirt junior 141-pounder Matt Manley continued his perfect record in dual competition this season with a 2-1 TB-1 win over No.15-ranked Zach Horan (Central Michigan) on Sunday. Jeffery posted 11 team points for NIU this weekend, helping the Huskies defeat SIUE and The Citadel in dual matches with his high-scoring displays at 125 pounds. The redshirt freshman sparked NIU's incredible rally against SIUE with a pin of Joe Antonelli in 1:18, giving the Huskies six crucial team points in their eventual 19-18 triumph on Saturday. The next day, Jeffery produced a technical fall in the first period against Charles Kearney to give NIU a 5-0 lead it wouldn't relinquish.
- Cameron Kelly, Ohio
Fr. Bellbrook, Ohio
Freshman Cameron Kelly went 2-0 in competition this weekend, beating then-ranked No. 10 Mark McQuire from Kent State on Friday and then beating Clarion's Roshaun Cooley on Saturday. Kelly's win over McQuire avenged a loss from earlier this year at the Navy Classic. Last Friday, Kelly dominated McQuire picking up a 9-2 decision victory. Kelly then came back to beat Cooley by pin fall at 2:49. The pair of wins pushed Kelly into the top 20 rankings for the first time in his career moving him to No. 15.
