Chris Logan has been named the head women's soccer coach at the University of Northern Iowa, as announced today by interim director of athletics Jean Berger.
Â
"We are happy to announce the hiring of Chris Logan to lead the UNI women's soccer team," Berger said. "Chris is ready to take over the program and provide the leadership needed at the Division I level. The UNI soccer program has come a long way from its inception in 2000 and we believe that with Chris at the helm, he can help take us to a higher level."
Â
Logan comes to UNI having served as an assistant women's soccer coach at North Dakota State. He was on the Bison coaching staff for four seasons, including the final three as an associate head coach. NDSU won the Summit League regular season title in 2015.
Â
"The passion and pride of being a part of the UNI community was evident throughout the time I spent on campus and I am extremely excited at the prospect of being a part of such an incredible environment," Logan said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such a talented group of young women. Their enthusiasm for UNI and the soccer program was palpable. I couldn't be happier to have such a wonderful group of student-athletes that I am fortunate enough to get to coach."
Â
He arrived in Fargo after spending a year as the top assistant coach for the women's soccer team at the University of Pittsburgh.
Â
Prior to Pittsburgh, Logan spent four seasons at Slippery Rock (Pa.) University where he served as the goalkeeper coach for both the men's and women's programs and helped Greg Blum earn All-America honors in 2009.
Â
He also has experience with youth club soccer in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Â
A native of Stoke-on-Trent, England, he was an NAIA All-America goalkeeper at Notre Dame College (Ohio) from 2002 to 2006, where he helped the Falcons win three conference titles. He also spent time playing semi-professional soccer in the Premier Development League for the West Palm Beach Pumas and the West Virginia Chaos.
Â
Logan graduated from Notre Dame College in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in English and literature. He earned his master's in English and literature from Slippery Rock in 2009.
Â
Logan becomes the fifth head coach in UNI's history, which began fielding a women's soccer team in 2000.
