Jackrabbits Top The Panthers In Double Overtime, 89-86

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team battled the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to double-overtime, but fell 89-86.
UNI finished the game with three players in double-figures, with Madison Weekly scoring a game-high 24 points. Jen Keitel added a season-high 18 points and seven rebounds with Amber Sorenson chipping in 16 points and three blocks.
The Panthers trailed to begin the first quarter, but eventually tied the game 9-9 when Weekly hit a mid-range jumper at the 6:19 mark. UNI was then able to take a 14-12 lead when Weekly followed it up with a deep three pointer with less than three minutes to play in the quarter.
UNI held a two-point lead heading into the second quarter before the Jackrabbits tied the game 27-27 with 5:37 on the clock. The Panthers answered with a three-pointer from Ellie Herzberg that sparked a 12-0 run to end the quarter, giving UNI a 43-30 lead at halftime.
South Dakota State came into the third quarter with hot hands, quickly cutting the UNI lead to 45-37 after the Jackrabbits drained a trey with 8:21 left in the quarter. Keitel put the Panthers back up by 10 after converting on two free throws, but SDSU ended up outscoring UNI 22-11 in the third quarter to make it a two-point game (54-52) with four seconds on the clock.
The Jackrabbits started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, taking a 58-54 lead with 8:17 left before Weekly could knock in a three-pointer to make it a one-point game. South Dakota State fired back, going on a 7-0 run to grab a 65-57 lead at the 4:19 mark.
UNI continued to fight back, countering with a 7-0 run of their own, tying the score 67-67 with five second left capped off by a jumper from Sorenson. The Panthers went 3-for-3 from the field to end the quarter and send the game into overtime.
The Panthers held a four-point lead with less than two minutes to play in the first overtime period, but South Dakota State tied the game 78-78 with a last second layup. Stephanie Davison put UNI back up by two after hitting two free throws, but SDSU immediately put in a three to follow, putting the Jackrabbits up 85-84.
Keitel traded the lead back in UNI's favor by scoring a jumper with 13 seconds left in the game, but South Dakota State knocked in a layup and two free throws to end the game going 4-for-4 from the field and seal the win.
